I love Esther and Gideon, both names are lovely. Yvette doesn't appeal to me and Sequoia is nms.

I love Esther and really like Yvette! As for the boys, I like Gideon, but Sequoia does nothing for me.

Esther - I used to find it old and stuffy, but it has grown on me. I like its meaning ("star").
Yvette - Pretty, but not really my style. I wouldn't mind encountering it on little girls more often.Gideon - Love it.
Sequoia (m) - Interesting, but not something I would use myself. It's a bit too hippie for me.

Kinda meh about Esther. Although, Essie would be a very cute nickname. I think Esther is the kind of name I don't love, but I appreciate when someone else uses. Yvette is pretty cool. As far as Y names go, I prefer Yolanda, but that's probably irrelevant. It's way more awesome than Yvonne.Gideon is a not-so-secret love of mine. He'd had dark curly hair, glasses, and I'd call him Gidders. But my husband is not on board...Sequoia is really neat, but I'd say it's middle-name or pet-name territory. I would find it odd on a person.

Out of this batch the only one I like is Sequoia (as a male name) and even this one is a GP.

I love Yvette! It's so spirited...just a rockin' little name. Yve & Yvie would be adorable nicknames.Gideon is in my top 10 for boys. I find it very handsome, but I don't know that it would ever make it to the very top of my list and be under serious consideration for a real child. I want to like Esther. I try to like it, and sometimes I almost do, but it doesn't last. It falls flat for me: dusty, wrinkled, downbeat. It's a shame since I have several positive associations with the name, including the biblical figure. Even my own middle name is derived, in part, from Esther. Ah, well.I have to pass on Sequoia. If you're Cherokee, and you really want to honor Sequoia's importance to your culture because that culture is such a big part of your life, then maybe. Otherwise, it's all SUVs and tall trees and sort of silly as a name.

Esther is a name I like...but I wish I liked more. I have met quite a few Esthers around my age (college/university) and it fits them beautifully, I just can't latch onto this name for some reason, I prefer Hadassah. Yvette sounds like a french maid in some old movie. Gideon - I love Gideon. Gideon is also my dog's name though so slightly unusable for me but I love seeing it on people too. Sequoia - I like the idea...seems too "hippie" to use in real life though, maybe as a middle name it would work. Props to anyone that can pull it off, I don't think many people can though.

I prefer Esther to Hester and Yvette to Yvonne, but probably not enough to use them.Gideon would be OK if it came with a guarantee that it would never turn into Giddy.Sequoia is asking for trouble. Fine tree, fine namesake, but just not practical.
