Liesel or Liesl
WDYT of Liesel / Liesl (I'm not sure which spelling I like better) ? Would it be a bit wacky in the US or do you think people would get it? Also, do you think it works with Matilda?
Thanks!

I like the name and prefer the spelling Liesel. I think it would work well in the US. Matilda and Liesel would be gorgeous for sisters.

LieselLiesel.Liesel already feels very nickname-y to me, and Liesl does even more so.

Liesel because Liesl looks weird
I think it works fine with Matilda, but Matilda and Liesel sound like a very German sibset. Nothing bad about that, just thought I'd point it out :)

LieslDefinitely the Liesl spelling. Liesel reminds me of diesel fuel. Plus, whenever I can legitimately get away with unusual spellings (like Dmitri, Laetitia and Liesl) I'm drawn like a moth to the flame. "Matilda and Liesl" are a darling pair. "The Sound of Music" made Liesl well known in the U.S. I see no problems. (I live in the U.S. for what it's worth.)

Now that you mention the diesel fuel I'm with you on the Liesl spelling.
