Yvette or Yvonne?
I'm really torn between these two names. Which do you prefer - Yvette, or Yvonne - and why?

I like both, but if I had to choose one, I'd pick Yvette.

I prefer Yvette even though my step-great-grandmother's name was Yvonne, lol.

I like Yvette.I don't know, I just like the pronunciations of the name.

I was almost named Yvonne, after my mother's childhood best friend. It's a good name. Yvette has a rather particular colouring, where I live. During political campaigns, (a few years back) Yvette was a code for conservative, quite religious, unadventurous housewives. As in,"That stand Polititian is taking won't fly with the Yvettes!"But as a name, I like it.

I kinda like Yvette better, but it would depend on the ln and also the mn which would flow better.

YvonneYvette sounds like it's trying too hard, showy. Yvonne sounds sort of shy and demure - a beauty who doesn't know she's beautiful. I like both, really, but I also like the nn Vonnie so Yvonne wins (with Evonne coming in first :) )

Yvonne. Because everyone usually says they prefer Yvette. With the recent rise of Eve names I'm sure that preference will continue. Yvonne is overlooked. Also, as sparkly and wonderful as Yvette is, there's something calm and soothing about Yvonne that draws me to her.

I much prefer Yvette. It just sounds classy and sharp as opposed to Yvonne....boring.

That is a tough one. Yvette is so energetic and bright while Yvonne is a more sombre and deep. I think I might pick Yvette in the end myself, as I like the cheery, sassy energy it has.

YvetteHe met her in a French cafe
She slipped in sideways like a cat
Sidelong glances
What a wary little stray!
She sticks in his mind like that
Saying, "Avez-vous un allumette?"
With her lips wrapped around a cigarette
Yvette in English saying,
"Please have this
Little bit of instant bliss."
~Joni Mitchell, Yvette in EnglishBut I really like Ysanne and Yvaine more.

YvetteYvonne is quite a dated name in the UK. Tends to be the moniker of 40-60 year old women.Yvette has timeless French chic.

YvetteI like Yvette more. I find Yvonne kind of dowdy.

Yvonne! No question. I am actually really interested in what people think of this name. It is an old family name I keep flip-flopping. Some days I love it, sometimes all I see are my Meme's weird ceramic elephant collection.

YvonneYvette just sounds like vet with an ee sound in front of it. It does not sound appealing to me.

definitely Yvone...The vette ending makes Yvette sound cheap and flashy, like a little tiny plastic sports car that has terrible gas mileage, falls apart at the drop of a hat and comes in neon colors.Yvonne is much prettier and more classy. If it was a car it would be a sleek, high-priced sports car with an engine that purrs and seats that seem to embrace you when you sit down.

I'd think of Yvonne as more of a station wagon. That's not a bad thing. It just isn't flashy and sporty sounding. Yvette sounds more sports-car like.

I like the analogy! And I see what you mean. Before now I had been more partial to Yvette because it was a bit softer, but lately I'm liking Yvonne more and more.
