I love Gerald. It has such a warm, soft, friendly sound. I'm not crazy about the nn Gerry / Jerry, though. :-/

I don't like it and I hate the nicknames. It conjures up an image of a middle-aged man in a midlifecrisis with a sh*tty wife and a horrible office job.

Better than Jeremy if you want a Jerry son, but I actually prefer Geraldine.

Deenie - what a nice idea! Most Geraldines I've known have done without a nn, but I did meet one who was known as Dinky. Not quite as bad as it sounds - it's an Anglo version of the standard Afrikaans diminutive ending, usually written as -tjie.

My parents knew a Dinky once. I don't think I ever heard what it was short for. I think she was English / British, but she could have been from South Africa or had those roots.

It seems old-man-ish to me. That's probably because it looks like a mix between geriatrics and bald.

I think it's dated. I don't really like the sound of it either.

It does feel rather old and dated. I would only use it if it were a family name and even then only as a middle name.
