Eli
What do you think of Eli?And, if you wanted to honor an Elizabeth, but were having a boy, do you think that Eli could work that way?(But don't forget to give your opinion of the name itself, in addition to answering the second question, because I'm interested in that.)

I like it. I think it's handsome on an older man and very cute on a young boy. I like it as a nn for Elias. Personally, I don't think it totally works as a way of honouring Elizabeth unless Elizabeth went by "Eli". It seems like too much of a stretch to me because it's a totally different name. Went I think of the name Elizabeth, I don't think of the Eli beginning...I think of the 'z' and the 'b' because they are the stand-out letters. If someone named their son Eli and said it was after an Elizabeth, I'd be like "What?"

Eli, with a French pronounciation, is quite common in the North American-Middle East community, I know two or three, and my husband's late brother was named Eli. So I'm familiar with it, and find it a good name. I also like the English pronounciation. I don't think Eli honours Elizabeth, though I see where that's coming from.

I think Eli is a great name. That was one of my suggestions for our DS's mn, but we went with Emmanuel instead and we now have a gorgeous nephew named Eli, who just turned one year old. A strong, yet simple name that seems to be gaining some favour here in Australia. I do still prefer Elijah "Eli" though. As for whether it could work to honour an Elizabeth, well why not I say. It's not like the name Eli isn't in Elizabeth, so I see the reasoning behind it.

I think it could work for honoring Elizabeth. I think the name is alright. I probably wouldn't use it myself, but I don't think it is bad.

I personally don't like the name, though I do like the name Elijah.
I think using Eli to honour an Elizabeth would work.

I like Eli quite a bit. I love how it has such a "long sound" for such a short, simple name. My mother is an Elizabeth, and I have considered Eli to honor her. It works for me, but more because they're both E- names than because of any other perceived connection between them. Basically, I think it works if you're a liberal honorer like me. If your idea of honoring is more strict, then I think it's iffy.

I used to like Eli more than I do now, but it was never a favorite. It sounds sneaky and dishonest, somehow, even though I have never met an Eli or know of any famous crooked Elis.
It seems a big leap to use Eli to honor Elizabeth. The names have nothing at all to do with each other besides the first three letters; it makes no more logical sense than to say you're honoring Mary by naming your son Mark. You'd do better to ask Elizabeth herself to choose the middle name, or use Elizabeth's maiden or married last name if you want to honor her that way.

Eli is so handsome! I love it as a nickname especially, but I would consider it as a full name as well. Yes, honouring that way would definitely work. And on a sidenote, I love boyish nicknames for girl names and you are now making me think of an Elizabeth, nn Eli. !! :)

It is my style, but I don't like how it ends in the sound "lie." I just don't think that's an attractive final sound. I much prefer the sounds of Elias and Elijah. As for your second question, probably not. I think that unless they are directly related (Gabriel/Gabrielle, Eric/Erica, Rene/Renee), it's kind of silly to use a female name to honor a male person or vice versa. Even then I'm iffy on it. I'm in the boat that if you don't want to (or can't, in this case) use the exact name of the person than there's not really a point.

I quite like Eli, but I prefer it as a nickname.I guess it could honour Elizabeth, but it is a but of a stretch.

I like Eli. I've been thinking about it a lot lately. I prefer it to Elijah, but I'm not sure whether it's enough on its own - like I know it's legit and all but it always seems to be short for something. Eli. Like it's half a name.Honestly, I don't see how it's honouring Elizabeth but meh. I guess?

NMSAA. It's decent, but sounds sorta slick and snakey to me. Eel-lie.No, I would not think that Eli honored Elizabeth, any more than Emma honors Emmanuel. It helps a little bit that the Eli- in Elizabeth is from the same word as Eli, but not enough for me.

I really like the name Eli, but I can never decide whether I prefer just Eli or if I prefer it as a nickname for Elijah or Elias. Eli seems very intelligent to me, and although I have no interest in American football, I must say that Eli Manning adds some definite sexiness to the name. I don't imagine an ugly kid is what I'm trying to say. Anyway, yes, I think Eli is a perfect way to honour an Elizabeth. Even though the names aren't technically related, I think the sounds are similar enough.
