Veronica "Ronnie" and Victor "Tory" are what immediately came to mind. I would suggest that you don't give them overly similar names. At most, I think you could get away with the same initial letter, but even then I think nicknames would definitely help to differentiate them. Giving two characters, especially two main characters, names that are too similar can end up being confusing for a reader, and they may have trouble keeping track of which character has which trait or who's doing what.
