Ottilie's post on Petrova sparked my memory about a phase I went through where I liked artist's surnames as first names. One of my favourites was Popova, for the artist
Lyubov Popova. At the time, I thought Popova was prettier than
Lyubov, but now I'm much more interested in
Lyubov. It makes me think of chunky, cubist rainbows (I think because the structure of
Lyubov reminds me of the "Roygbiv" trick to remembering the colour sequence in rainbows) and friendly robots. So that's pretty fun.
Liouba is a Russian variant of
Lyubov that I think might be more user-friendly in a non-Slavic country. I like
Liouba quite a lot as well.
Which do you prefer:
Lyubov, or
Liouba? What are your thoughts on them?
