Honestly- for a middle name, I think it's fine. I'm of the opinion that pretty much anything goes for a middle name and that's where you can really have fun and go for something you wouldn't necessarily choose for a first name. That being said, I would never use Athenry for a first name. When I first got a glance of it, before I really read it, I thought it was a low-class variation of Anthony, like Anfernee (if you've seen Mean Girls you'll get the reference.) And the fact that it ends in a RYE sound and not a REE sound means it will have pronunciation problems in my area. I'm also just not a place name fan. But anyway, it's for a middle name, and has personal significance to you, so why not?
