Re: Todays name list... for girls
in reply to a message by Joiya
Indah could be quite pretty. I mean, if I'm saying it right, and if BtN's guide is right on how it's said. It's just not for me, though.
Blossom - eugh. Twee and yet somehow gross. It's very word-y, and it makes me think of 'bosom' and it has a not great sound and look and a really cutesy imagery. Not my style at all.
Delora - better than Delores, not that that's saying much. Makes me think of cars and lunch-ladies.
Petunia - has a petulant sound. Makes me think of Hyacinth Bucket, if any UK BtNers remember that show. A shame, because petunia flowers are quite pretty and deserve a nicer sounding name.
Hazel. I hate Hazel. I mean, it would be cute for a bunny or something, but it's twee on a human, and I have very bad impressions from Hazels in my life. They're either dishevelled, stinking of B.O and a sandwich, two plates and an army of ants short of a picnic, or they're malicious and old-fashioned. In any case, they're always brainlessly incompetent.
Meadow - not a name in my books.
Harmony is very 90s. It makes me think of cotton braids and fake tattoos and boy bands.
I hate both Summer and Sommer. Summer looks better, but I still don't like it. Weirdly, I think Leto (Russian for 'summer') is really cute in a GP way. I used to joke that if I had triplet girls, they might end up being Vesna, Leto and Zima (Spring, Summer and Winter).
Lorraine isn't bad, but it's not my kind of name at all.
Belphoebe is interesting, but perhaps a little too odd. I dislike Phoebe, so Belphoebe doesn't really appeal to me.
Naomi is growing on me. It's cute.
I think Jade is really tacky. Sorry.
Marit is better. Merit doesn't look like a name to me.
Patience - fuddy duddy.
Pleasance - ditto.
Bree - NMS.
Emerald is the same as Diamond and Amethyst. It's what a little girl might call her doll, and it seems very juvenile. (I like Sapphire in a GP way, so who am I to talk?)
Leda is pretty.Valiant on a boy is just asking for him to become some kind of juvie menace to society. Seriously. It can only be ironic.
