I actually quite like surnames and occupations as first names. Emerson, Mackenzie, Bailey, Reagan, Kennedy, Foster, Deacon, stuff like that. Especially on girls. If I had any worthwhile surnames in my own family, I'd use them.
I also don't mind place names. I just get a bit bored of the ones you usually see. I enjoy a quirky place name. I'd like to meet a Holland.
But such names do have some history (like did you know Florence Nightingale and her sister Parthenope were named after their birthplaces?), so maybe they don't count.
I really like the name Chance.
