Cookie & Honest Opinions
So looking through facebook and there's another baby announcement. A friend of the woman announcing it got confused and for some reason thought they'd be naming their baby Cookie (which she's not obviously). The friend said it was playful and beautiful before she realized her mistake. Now do you think this friend was being honest, and really thinks Cookie is a good name? Or do you think she was just blowing smoke up her ass?I realize not everyone is as brutally honest as we can be here on the board (which I appreciate) but I can't see how someone would think Cookie was playful and beautiful. So a couple questions. Cookie as a name, yes or no? Do you think this lady was being genuine about liking Cookie or just being nice? And in real life, are you as honest as you might be on the boards here?http://www.behindthename.com/pnl/139762

C is for cookie, that's good enough for me...I have no idea if she was just joking or not, but let's say I hope she was!
Cookie...no. Just no.

I think Cookie is definitely a playful name, but I picture a lady with red curly hair that works at a diner, smacks her gum, and wears aweful makeup thats very "Mimi of the Drew Carey show." Therefore, I wouldn't call it beautiful. Spunky? Sarcastic? Firey? Sure.

Playful maybe, beautiful no way! - definitely more smoke than required.
Would I be honest? If directly asked for an opinion on a name, yes, but it would be along the lines of 'it's not my cup of tea'.

Just, NO!

I think it's a fine nickname for an old man, but a little girl? Nah. Not seeing it. I say smoke.

Cookie is a nonsense of a name, suitable only for the airhead teen daughter of a cartoon couple named Bumstead. And - who knows - in her case Cookie could be a nn for something more pretentious like Cassandra or Camilla or Chriselda. And that's before you even get to the food association - which doesn't exist where I live, because a cookie is a cracker is a biscuit here. But one is aware of it. (Of course, Stuart and Stewart get called Stu or Stew, but at least they've got something longer to fall back on.)I'm battling to be polite about a new baby named Poppy, related to friends who don't like it either. I wouldn't be forthright about it necessarily, though I might well suggest Penelope as a longer form with more, er, potential I suppose, or authenticity.

Cookie as a name? Yes, of course, my dog is named Cookie. Cookie as a human name? Absolutely NO!I don't know, personally I find it hard to see Cookie as anything but my dog's name, but that doesn't mean somebody else can't find it "playful and beautiful".I'm not as honest in real life as I am on the boards, no one on here knows me, and so it's completely different when you're face to face with a close friend, family member, or an acquaintance.

It's stupid and degrading.

I think it's stupid. I think the lady was just being nice.

Cookie is ridiculous. I have no idea whether or not the person you refer to was being honest when she said it's playful and beautiful. Many people will go so far as to outright lie to be nice. No, I'm not honest IRL about names as I am here on the board, but I don't lie either. If I don't like a name that someone has named or says they are going to name their baby, I say nothing.

I know a girl named Christine who goes by Cookie. As an actual name: F--- NO!

I don't like "cookie" as a legit name. I have nothing against it, just have a hard time taking it seriouslyI have an Aunt named Cookie but ONLY as a nickname and another aunt named Penny (again only as a nickname and no her real name isn't Penelope or any variant close to it)
They received their nicknames during childhood because I guess while kids they were inseparable and from what my mom told me, everyone had this saying "you get a cookie for a penny." (: thus creating their long lasting nicknames. Their real names are like Mary & Sherie I think.Cookie is alright but only as long as it's a nickname.

SmokeCookie would be too pathetic even for a cat! Should certainly never be given to a human. It's like calling your child Cupcake or Muffin.. just don't go there.

I don't like Cookie as a name. To me, it's like calling someone Toots (tuhts). Making them a nameless chick, not a real person. I sure hope she was joking. But then, using it during the pregnancy would be like on a couple of sitcoms I've seen, where they were discussing names for the baby, and the toddler in the family suggests something like Big Bird or Hot Dog, and it becomes an inside joke way of referring to the baby instead of calling him/her 'It' or 'the baby' all the time.

Cookie as a name: On a person, very silly. On a dog or cat, pretty cute.
Not knowing the woman you're talking about I can't say whether she was being sincere or not, but IRL most people just make polite mouth-noises about other people's kids' names after they're already chosen and don't critique them unless asked, saving any snideness for a private time with somebody else.

I couldn't take Cookie seriously as a name. I imagine that the woman's friend was not serious about it being "beautiful"; playful, maybe, but not beautiful. Ok (though silly) as a NN, but it's not a real name.

Who knows? With naming these days, it's hard to tell! Everyone is so busy trying to be creative and special. I personally think Cookie is hideous, however, I was looking at a local real estate brochure a couple years ago. The brochure also listed the names of agents and there were two or three women named Cookie! I kid you not! Now, obviously, I'm assuming they were nns. The funny thing is most of the agents had really youthful names ending with the e sound: Candy, Cathy, Judy, Julie, Abby, Molly, etc. It was as if a similar-ending name was a requirement to join the club. There was even a male agent named Boopie! And he used that professionally! But I digress ...

If Coco and Candy can pass, I don't see why Cookie can't. I am not personally a fan, but "playful" sounds like an accurate descriptor. Beautiful is a stretch, but "quirky and cute" would have been honest and could easily have been followed by "unexpected and totally not my style". I think that if she was just being polite, good for her! Once a child actually gets his/her moniker, I say compliment it. It belongs to a person now and is much more than a name so no point in bashing it, especially in front of mom/dad/baby, etc. Now, online is a totally different story. So, my virtual (and semi-anonymous) opinion of that name Cookie is that it is ridiculous and pompous to give your kid a name they will have to work past their whole life, and which will make people hungry. ;)
*From your post title, I thought you were also going to ask about the name Honest. . . to which I would have said that I prefer Honor, but would use Honesty over Honest if forced.

It wouldn't surprise me if the friend was being honest. I can't really see Cookie as beautiful either, but playful, sure.I would not be as honest with a friend in real life as I would here. I would not lie, though, and say I liked a name when I didn't. I'd just mention only the things that I thought were positive or neutral about it. If I thought I heard a friend say she was naming her daughter Cookie, I'd say "Oh? that's cute" very neutrally. Because cute is all it is... lol
