Yes, Jason is very common and it's dated. I've known what feels like a million men named Jason. For those reasons, I would never dream of using Jason. But that doesn't mean I don't like it. I like it a lot, I think it's very handsome. Unlike some other names that are common because they were once very popular, I can understand why it was so popular. If I lived somewhere where it's not common and dated, I'd consider it strongly.
Alaric is not too weird for a real child.
