Amalia & Gilbert
What do you think of the name Amalia with the nickname Mollie? Is Gilbert really geeky and old man in a bad way? Which nickname is best, Gil or Bertie?

My daughter is Amalia nn Molly so clearly, I adore it! I like Gilbert ok, but am not really a fan of either nickname

I think Amalia nn Mollie is gorgeous! =)Because of Anne of Green Gables (and only because of Anne of Green Gables), I have a soft spot for Gilbert. I think either nn would work.

Amalia doesn't have a lot of appeal to me. Just sounds square. I'll maul ya. Other than that, though, can't complain about it, it's nicer than Amelia, and nn Mali / Mollie would work for it and keep it from being too square for life.I can certainly imagine Gilbert as geeky or old, but I don't naturally tend to think of it that way. To me it is like Francis or Henry or Cyrus or Grant - old but not obsolete, still has life. Definitely nickname Gil has a spiffy, masculine style. Bertie is so artificial - it is geeky and old man in a self-conscious way.
