Personally when I hear it I think Maia, although Maya comes in as a close second place. If I think about it I remember Maja but as an English speaker it wouldn't be my go-to spelling.

I have met a Maiya but it's not my first pick... or my second, or third. :-P It's one superfluous letter too many.
