Nicknames for Richard
I have a strange dilemma. I love the name Richard, but if I used it, I'd want to give him a nickname. However, I hate all the conventional nicknames for Richard. Rick, Ricky, Rich, Richie, Dick.Any solutions to my weird problem?

I've heard of a Richard who goes by Dixon…The only other alternative I can think of is Rico.

Just call him Richard.
Then when he's older he picks his own nickname, which he'll do regardless of whether you like it.I know a Richard who goes by Richard only.

I'm weird because I still love Dick as a nickname for Richard. Too bad it's totally unusable now. Sigh.Anyway, maybe Ardy, Hardy, Char, Chary/Charie (like Charlie without the L), or Red?

Red?

Well, you could give him a nn from his middle name, but then why bother making Richard the first name at all?
Or you could call him by his initials: R.J., R.D., etc.
Or wait till he's developed some distinct personality trait that naturally lends itself to a nn: Flash, Swifty, etc., those these nns tend not to age well or work in formal settings.
I suppose you could use Chard, but it is ugly, a vegetable, and seems like you're trying to hard.

I've known Richards who went by Rip. I think that's worse than any of the more common options, though! But that's the only other one I can think of. I like Richard itself much more than any of its nickname options too. (Though I do like Dick and Dickon... but obvies not good to use these days.)

Rad might work. I suppose Char or Chardy or Hardy technically work too, but they're much worse than Rich etc!
I'd give him a completely unrelated nn, along the lines of Bud. Or maybe one related to his last name, or initials.
