Nia
Have you ever cared more about your character's name than the character themselves? (Assuming if you do write)And sorry this may be a tad bit strange.
I have this character named Nia (I'm choosing to pronounce it as Nigh-uh and NOT nee-uh) Nigh rhymes with My and then uh at the end
I don't hate this character. She still means something to me but not as strongly as my other characters. I mean every character an author has created means something to them. Usually. She just doesn't provide as much.
I had originally planned to kill her off during my second book (not an actual book lol. Just printed out pages placed in a binder) but I became so enthralled with her name. Nia is a very, very uncommon and unusual and many people have never heard of it before at least where i'm from. I never heard of it before and how I ended up coming acrossed it, I'll never know. I think it was that I thought I had made up the name and it wasn't until later, I found out it was a legit name. Usually pronounced as nee-uh.
I mean I ended up killing off this character named Ridge in place of Nia I guess you can say, which was an completely unplanned scene and he meant more to me. Nia's death scene was plotted out for a good while but it just never happened. Me: "nooo, her name is so beautiful."
Maybe I'll kill her later on in the series.Soooo yeah. Has that ever happened to you?
Also, would you ever give your characters a name you personally hated or disliked? I only would if I truelly hated the character or if the character meant absolutely nothing to me. Or was just an uniportant extra.
But for the characters I take to the heart, it has to be a name that I usually LOVE or at least can completely tolerate.Your thoughts?
