Robbartt & Odd Names from Ancestry
Someone in my family has recently been investigating the small amount of Irish blood we have, and the even smaller amount of English, which has lead to the findings of several interesting names. There have been quite a few Roberts and Sarahs, and one Robbartt born in the 1600s.Robbartt could be a strange misspelled admission to the individual's documents, which is not unheard of from so long ago, but it is quite intriguing nonetheless. If I had seen Robbartt in a birth announcement from today, I would simply have thought of it as a creative spelling, or by more of a stretch belonging to Frisian origin (similar to Lubbert). What do you think about Robbartt? Do you have any unusual or fantastical names from your own lineage?

I'm guessing it's an attempt at Robert but spelling was not something that was standardized back then. Most of the men in my family had fairly normal names. The women, not so much. I have done a lot of family history so my list of whacky names is pretty long. I'll just list a few below. I'm also including the year which the person was born (if known). Apollonia
Araminta
Artemenica-1849
Averilla- 1725
Avienell- 1934
Balzora- 1880
Barbli- 1532, 1572, 1600 (mother, daughter, granddaughter)
Niesje- 1548. Supposed to be Belgian. No clue how to pronounce it.
Pernetta 1812, 1868
Permelia- 1819, 1837 Abednigo- 1808
Achilles- 1751

I'd assume Robbartt is a misspelling from when there wasn't a standard spelling for words. If that makes sense. Some of my family's unusual of names
Minneola- she was alive in the past hundred years
Blichilde
Dolphin- yes, like the mammal
Dueterria
Erviz- I have very little on him
Osceria
Richildis- I like this name, but would only use it in literature.
Aenor
Emmota
Sisle
Alwara
Alionore
Xielma

Man, standardised spelling really meant we lost some gems *shakes fist* Robbartt is cool, it has that medieval archaic feel, I like it more than Robert. As for my own lineage, we are but paupers and cannot trace our family that far back, or at least I imagine we can't, as no one I know of has bothered to try. Actually, that's a lie, we can trace the origin of our surname to one area, but we don't know the names of those who bore it long before us.
