Rebecca
I've really fallen in love with the name Rebecca. My only problem is that I have a cousin with the name, and she's not that great of a person. She has a lot of issues and lost custody of her son a few times. She seems to be on a better track but still. I have limited contact with her and I'm no longer speaking to her mother. (Her mother would be more of a problem, as my aunt Joy is drama central. However - does it really matter what they think? I don't see them, my in-laws reuse names all the time and I don't really see myself having a relationship with either my cousin or my aunt, ever.Thoughts? I really love the way Miriam and Rebecca sound together.

Interestingly enough, when my mother wanted to name me Rebecca, my dad's side of the family was vehemently against it because my uncle was married to and divorced a Rebecca. They wanted something like Megan instead, and in the end I'm very happy my mom stuck to her gut. Growing up I never was judged by my family for my name and they never attempted to call me anything else-- they had to get over their reservations. They loved me dearly and I didn't even know about it until I became an adult.Go with what you love and don't let other people ruin it for you. Also, Miriam is gorgeous. I like it with Rebecca, too!

It obviously matters what you think, and since you've mentioned more than once before how much you dislike your cousin Rebecca and how you would never use the name because of it, well, there's your answer.
But Rebecca is a very nice name and it does go nicely with Miriam. The pairing sounds very typically Jewish, in an All of a Kind Family way, but not so much as Miriam and Judith or Miriam and Naomi, say. Rebecca has never been out of style, but it isn't so popular just right now.

Miriam and Rebecca do sound like sisters. I also like the Rebekah spelling.

It doesn't matter what they think. It doesn't matter that it's her name. It's a good name and it's not like it's her property. There are Rebeccas all over.
I like Rebecca too, and agree it sounds just right as a sister of Miriam.

I, too, have been thinking about Rebecca lately. I love it and in fact, I've never grown tired of Rebecca the way I have with many biblical names. I say use it despite the family connection. Miriam and Rebecca sound wonderful together.

I think Miriam and Rebecca sound like sisters. If you have little to no contact with your cousin, I don't think it's a problem. When would Rebecca 1 and Rebecca 2 ever see each other? And no, it doesn't matter what people think, especially if they're people you don't care for. They might think it's weird and wonder if you're honoring Rebecca 1, but if they ask all you have to say is, "We just really liked the name in and of itself." And if they don't believe you or have a problem with it, oh well. Can't please everybody.

Nah, I don't think it would be a big deal. If your family asks if she's named after your cousin you can just say no and move on.Rebecca is a lovely name, and I agree that it sounds wonderful with Miriam. My only hesitation is the nickname Becky, which I really dislike.

If you don't primarily associate the name with your cousin, I don't think it really matters, especially since you said you don't talk to her much.Rebecca is one of the few biblical girls' names I like. It comes across as sporty and timeless to me.I love Miriam; it's in my top 10. I agree that it goes pretty well with Rebecca.
