Eunice
I recently met a Eunice who appears to be in her fifties or sixties. I've always thought of Eunice as a comically ugly name. But she's been living with it, lol. What do you think of Eunice? Comically ugly, or does it have some redeeming features?

I'm in agreement with you, it's comically bad. I'm not fond of any "Eu-" names to begin with, but this is, imo, the worst of the lot.YOO-nis.Blech! People having named their baby girls this. It might be worse than the English pronunciation of Blanche...

No redeeming features that I can identify. YOOniss is just plain ugly; YOOnisee isn't too bad but there's a very old and well-respected girls' school here in South Africa called Eunice and pronounced yooNEEsee, which makes me want to lie down in a darkened room.

I really dislike this name. It sounds gross......EUUUU! It's what I say when my cat coughs up a hairball.I have only met one Eunice in real life. She is most likely in her late 60s now. She is the mother of an old friend. She is very domineering, loud and outspoken. She felt like she was in charge and all must follow her lead. I think her name fits her well!

I think it's on the ugly side, but not comically so. It's just an unlovely little name. TBH, not many Eu- names appeal to me.

I have actually only seen this name on first generation Korean-American women under the age of 30. I know that sounds specific, but I've known 3 believe it or not! There seems to be a trend of "older lady" names among first generation Korean-Americans (and maybe other Asian-Americans as well).

Hispanics, too.

Eunice is a good name on an older person. Can't think of using it now.

Eunice is cute! I love almost all names beginning with Eu- I think they are adorable and vastly underappreciated. Eugene/Eugenia, Eulalia, and Eudoxia are some other good Eu names.

I love Eunice! It's so gentle and charming to me. Eunie is a really cute nickname, too.

It's always a little colored for me as it was the name of a high school teacher. (Also in her sixties now? I think?) She was... something of an eccentric. I think the name fits her, but it takes a very special person for that.

I imagine Fran Drescher saying, "Oh Eunice!"

Not comical nor ugly, I don't think. Just a name.

Are any names just really names though? What is behind the name? It means good victory, no? Maybe her comedy routine was victoriously funny?

I hope it was (victoriously funny).Being a comedian is hard, I would think.
A thoughtful comment!

Comically ugly and not even all that comical. It sounds like blocked sinuses.
