Clara is rising in popularity for girls, so it seems odd to give the name to a dog. You might end up with a girl named Clara next door. How would she feel sharing a name with a dog?
What I would name it would depend on the dog and its personality. I tend to use guilty pleasures on pets. Usually, I have to play with an animal and watch it interact with others before I can decide on a name.

If I had a pug, I would be tempted to name it Goblin or Gremlin.
For a Pomeranian or a Chihuahua, Yoda or Dobby would be cute.
A male bulldog would be Winston.
