Celeb BA
Macklemore's second daughter was named Colette Koala. She joins sister Sloane Ava Simone. Personally, I hate the double Co- sound. And Koala is weird, but I've seen weirder."Okay, what are your ideas? Taylor? Uh-huh. Fletcher? Cooper? Tanner? Where are you getting these? The Big Book Of Medieval Professions?"

Colette is really nice. The Koala part is wacky, cutesy, and cringeworthy imho. It’s a typical celebrity baby name; I’m just happy they gave her a sensible first name.

Colette is cute, but Koala is just weird. Ava Simone is OK. Sloane is ugly.

Hmmm...I wonderI have to wonder whether maybe little Colette was conceived while touring in Australia last year and that's why they chose Koala. The timing would be about right by memory? I just remember there was all this "controversy" about Macklemore performing his song, 'Same Love' at the rugby league grand final right before the plebiscite on same sex marriage.Anyway, I like Colette and while Koala is silly, it sounds kind of namey when you just look at the sounds and for a middle name, I'm all about "anything goes".

Considering the popularity of Koa in Australia at the moment. Koala isn't much of a stretch.

Sloane is the ugliest name. Sloane. Slow. Loan. Ugly ugly ugly.
And Colette Koala sounds like a Beanie Baby.

I like Colette, and it is definitely interesting.

Sees Colette - 'Oh, what a sweet and pretty name, a refreshingly nice choice'
sees Koala - 'Why'd you have to ruin it'I don't like Koala as a name at all - what is it telling your kid to name them after an animal that does nothing but eat and look cute for the two hours of the day that it's awake? What led him to that? 'Oh well koalas are cute and my child is cute' yeah well she's not gonna be a baby forever! All that aside though, if I can accept Koala as a name - it's just awful paired with Colette. So awful.Guess that's his style though, I'd see Sloane and Simone as too similar to be in the same combo myself, though at least they're broken up by Ava.

I like Colette; I've noticed it getting more popular and I'm wondering why... seems a little random unless there's some pop culture reference I'm missing. I do like it though, much nicer than Sloane. Koala is extremely odd... I know Zooey Deschanel's daughter's middle name is Otter which is weird but not as weird as Koala! I wonder if there's some kind of story behind it? Colette Koala sounds like a cartoon character! Also I realized that Sloane Ava Simone rhymes and that really bothers me, along with the fact that one daughter has two middle names while the other only has one (probably to avoid the rhyminess of Sloane Simone but it doesn't really accomplish that). Overall decent choice for a celebrity though!

...Otter's not as weird as Koala?

Otter sounds namier to me too. I can’t put my finger on why. Maybe because it reminds me a lot of profession names like Hunter, Fletcher, Tanner, etc.

Otter is weird to me because sea otters will actually rape baby seals so that’s not a very nice association. I mean, koalas are at least generally harmless, but creepy if youve seen that meme about a wet koala.

Koalas are as "generally harmless" as otters are. Koalas are quite vicious and territorial and they fight each other a lot (no matter their gender). Being woken up by a koala fight two houses down in something I've experienced. They also abandon their babies if they become pregnant/have a new baby in their pouch, even if the older one isn't ready to be alone yet.I love koalas...and I love otters. They're animals so they'll do what they do instinctively. I just love animals in general but I wouldn't name my kid after most of them!

Oh it's definitely weird, but it sounds more name-y if that makes sense, probably because of the -er ending.

...because *la is a very unusual ending for girls' names...no, that doesn't make sense to me. but okay.

I slightly dislike Colette (mostly based on the Col* and my dislike of Nicole), and I hate Sloane.Koala as a MN is kind of fun, and Ava Simone's pretty. In my accent, the initial sound in Colette / Koala seems slightly different (I kind of insert a W in koala).

Are you one of those people that says "koh-wallah"?

Out of curiosity: What else it supposed to be then?

Just take out the W sound?
koh-allah. Why do people put a W sound in there anyway?

I've never heard an American say it without the W sound. It seems to me very difficult to say without it.

In my accent (in Dutch) we tend to put it in to make it easier to say. Similar to the liaison in French. I sort of copy this in English. Kowala is much easier to pronounce for me than Koala. I don't really hear the difference when someone else says it, bc the -w- in between is without meaning for me. Just like with for exa,ple Theo, I say more THEE-yo than THEE-o. It's just easier to say with the little liaison letter in there.

More like Kwahl-ah, but yeah, I guess.

I agree about the repeating sounds, and who the hell would give a kid the name Koala, first or middle??? What's next, Wombat? At least the combo lends itself easily to Coco, though. lol

Bit of a tongue twister.
