Re: My mother's name is Susan, what are your thoughts on the forms Susanna, Susannah, Suzana, Suzanna, Etc?

I know I was just saying I disliked confoluted half-assed honoring but I don’t think this really counts, as Susan and Suzanna et al are pretty clearly related names, I don’t think it’s the same as “Well my mom Susan’s favorite color is blue so I’m going to use Sky to honor her!” Especially because they’re considering it as a first name, it could also avoid the potential for confusion or constantly having to refer to “Young Susan” and “Grandma Susan.”http://www.behindthename.com/pnl/87410

I guess it's a matter of personal taste and opinion. To me that wouldn't be honoring, because they're not the same name. I don't see the point of using a name for honoring purpose unless you use the same name. You can still use the other name of course if you like it, but I wouldn't call it honoring.

My mother's legal name is Susannah, but ever since she was little girl she's always gone by simply Susan out of preference, it is honoring either way though, but if for some reason I did want to honor her by naming her Sky because mother's favorite color is blue that's cool too! The funny thing about honoring people as you can do it pretty much anyway you want to, my god daughter is named Jasmine after her grandmother's favorite flower, if that's somehow a problem to you I suggest you get the fuck over it, that's still honoring. So maybe offer up constructive criticism instead of just judgmental petty little snids?
