I wold go for Lachlan David Liam or better yet Lachlan William David bc it flows better than the first option and it honours just as much as Liam.
If he really can't get on board with Lachlan, I'd try starting over and trying to find new names. I can understand you've got a bit more 'right' to name him bc he's your first, but the father still defintely has a veto vote even if it'd be his 10th son.
I personally wouldn't contemplate a name when I know already several kids with the same name. If I ever met someone with that name or vaguely know them it's okay, but in your shoes I'd defintely move Liam to the MN spot.
