Opinions on the name Neo
Neo is short for Neophytos which is Greek for New Growth or Newly Planted. It is in NO WAY related to the Matrix character which is what a lot of people think. Moreover, it's pronounced differently. The Matrix character is pronounced NEE-O, meanwhile this original version is pronounced Nay-Oh*, basically Mayo with an 'N'.Other variations are Neofit, Neófito, Néophyte etcetera. What do you think? Will it forever be tied to the Matrix movie to use? Should it be used in it's full form to avoid confusion?
Can you think of any good middle names to go with it?

It’s VERY tied to the Matrix in my mind. I also think you’d have a hard time getting the pronunciation you want. Absolutely nobody would ever say it right the first time, and a slew of lazy, stubborn or oblivious people would never get it right no matter how long you know them. My boss is one of those people. He just calls everybody by whatever variant of their name is easiest for him to pronounce and remember. There is no language barrier. He calls my coworker Padraigh “Patrick”. He calls my other coworker Claudia “CLOD-ee-ah” no matter how many times she says “CLOUD-ee-ah”. He calls a client, Beth, “Bethany” all the time even though he’s been told time and again it’s short for Elizabeth. There are many more examples, and he’s far from the only person I know who does this.

I think if it's pronounced Nay-o, then it would not be too tied to the Keanu Reeves character!
I don't even think NEE-o would be that tied to it. It's usable. So surely Nay-o is.
I think it's nicer with a full form, but doesn't need it.
I think the full name Neophytos (while cool) isn't too appealing in English, at least not where I live, because of the English word neophyte which now means a novice, newcomer, someone inexperienced (implying, someone lacking knowledge or competence in some area).
The form Neófito would not have that problem.

When I see Neo, I think of The Matrix even though I've never even seen the movie. Then I just think "new". Neophytos is cool, and Neo is a natural way to shorten it. I like the full name-nickname combination, but I wouldn't use Neo by itself.
Neofit looks like a product name or company name for one of those step-counting watches... like "new fitness" or something. I know it's not pronounced that way but that's what it looks like to me.
Neófito is kind of cool.
Néophyte looks too much like the English word neophyte.

Hi !!!!I like the name Neophytos!
I also know that this name is pronounced in other way than the Matrix character.I suggest you to use Neophytos NN Neo because Neo alone is too weak as a name imo and yes It is still related with Matrix.Unfortunately in Italy neo- is a daily and common prefix for many words so it can't be used.. It also means 'mole, beauty mark' here. What a pity!
