I'm from South Carolina and when it's pronounced like the state, it's weird to me, but I like it pronounced care-oh-LEE-nah.

Yeah, care-oh-LEE-nah is the only way I'd say it. (I'd doubt many people would even pronounce it like the states though but when it is, I agree how weird it would be) It doesn't work how Georgia or Virginia does.
