Jade
Recently I saw an old friend for the first time in over ten years, and met her three-year-old daughter, whose name is Jade. I like Jade and it's not overly popular, so I think she made a good choice. What's your opinion of Jade for a girl?

I’ve been thinking of this name lately. I love Jade but, thanks to people I’ve come across, I always associated it with mean or conniving people. But, of course, there are Jades with good character out there and a name doesn’t make a person! I would use it if it weren’t for my bad associations. All it takes is meeting one Jade who will change my mind, haha.

I like it for either gender. I consider it kind of tacky? But I like it nevertheless.

It seems a bit dated to the early 2000s to me. I remember a lot of media that had characters named Jade. It's not a bad name though.

Pretty, not too popular, easy to spell, feminine without frills, and it seems like it should age fairly well. I like it.

Jade is a bit of a guilty pleasure. I like the stone and sound of the name, but it has some negative connotations that would keep me from ever using it. Jade was first used in Middle English to mean “a broken-down horse." In the the 19th century it was used to refer to a disreputable woman, and now days it could be associated with jaded. In general, a lot of jewel names can come across as tawdry.

It's my sister's name. I like it, although I usually prefer it as a middle name for a long first name. I do think you need dark hair to have this name though.

LOL. Well, the little girl is blonde. Her hair will probably grow darker as she grows up, but probably not become darker than a light brown, as that's the natural color of her mother's hair.

I hate saying this, because it's a nice name and I used to like it - but it has lower-class connotations to me. Unfortunately, I think gemstone names - along with names like Destiny - are prone to being used by exotic dancers and that leads to less classy associations.

I've only known two Jade people, one a female school teacher and the other a male school pupil. Different schools! The woman was unusually tall, taught English and coached swimming; the boy was very pleasant, very well built, and took part in field athletics. He's grown up now and working as an auctioneer. So my opinions are mixed; my memories of the male Jade are more vivid and nicer, however for a girl it always sounds like someone with a very bad cold saying "Jane". I don't like jewel names in general: they seem cold and hard. And I do like Jane, so that would always be my choice. By the way, schoolboy Jade had a sister named Amber!

Hi !!!I love the meaning but the sound of Jade seems cold and metallic to my mind.Giada is much sweeter even if it is more popular here.

I like it but for either gender.

I think it's pretty, mostly because it's evocative of green to me, and I generally associate positive things with that.Stylewise, it reminds me of: Jasmine, Amber, Jane, Violet, Ruby, Crystal, Skye, Hope, Joy, Sage, Claire, Kate, Cade, Jewel... which I'd call pleasant, for the most part.

I'm not particularly fond of it. It's not a bad name, but it sounds and looks rather bland and boring to me. Maybe it reminds me too much of Jane, which I dislike.

Funny, because I dislike Jane also, but in my case, the one letter makes all the difference.

I like the name a lot! I think it's beautiful and a little unexpected.
