Do you like the English pronunciation of Ivan?
I’ve been looking into the name Ivan, and though I knew it was pronounced differently overseas (I’m American) I didn’t know it was quite so widespread and that there were so many different pronunciations. Out of all the pronunciations, commenters seem to like the English pronunciation, IE-vən, the least. I always quite liked IE-vən, though I do think the Russian pronunciation is nice as well (pronounced more like ih-VAHN I believe).WDYT of Ivan and which pronunciation do you prefer? You can opt for a different one than the ones listed.

I don't like the name in general but I prefer it with the EYE-ven pronunciation. It sounds fun and quirky this way. ee-VAN sounds like he'd happily boil you in a vat of oil.

I like IEvan, probably because it's what I'm used to. I don't speak Russian, and can't see the point of butchering any foreign pronunciation when an English one exists. I've never heard anyone, including historians, refer to ih-VAHN the Terrible!

I like EYE-ven. I think it's jolly and fun. Feels kind of steampunk.

I like it most as EE-vahn. I quite like it. If this baby would have been a boy I'd have considered it as a brother to Elva. The English pronunciation sounds okay, but doesn't feel right to me somehow.

I love Elva, it really is a pretty, whimsical name. :)

I pronounce it like "eye" and "van" (both British pronunciations of each)I prefer it to the Russian one. I'm not a massive fan if Ivan anyway, but if I were to choose a pronunciation, it'd be the one I use
