Olena is extremely common name where I live. Mostly for adults, it is not so much used for kids now. I support bringing back name here for younger generations.
It also is wife of my country president name. I checked data:
Olena was in top 5 baby name for girl from 1960-1995.
In 2013 there was 1058576 women called Olena who live in my country.
It's a beautiful name! Perhaps it will become popular in the United States for those who enjoy Olivia but want a more unique name. My aunt, born in 1927, was named Olena Grace LaMar.
Where do your aunt come from? When I was younger I had friend named Yelena. It is Russian version of Olena, because I lived in Russian speaking city. She would be Olena if she ever speaked in Ukrainian ^-^
There also is girl named Olena in one of my class. I feel like here Alyona is more popular for younger generation.
