Is there a reason people don't really like the name Douglas?
I've always thought Douglas was an amazing name. It works for all ages (which I really want in a name) and I think it can sound really cute! I don't really like the nickname "Doug" but i like "Dougie" for a little kid. But is there a specific reason it's not a very liked name?

I dislike the name Douglas and especially the nickname Doug. The "ug" sounds like a caveman name.
I will respectfully state that I don't like the name. Not because of any bad connotations, I just dislike the sound. If you like it, definitely use it! It's a classic choice.
I think it's a victim of timing at the moment. I knew two boys named Douglas during my schooling, born ca. 1991-94, and then it seemed a bit dated but fine. I think now it's not vintage enough to be vintage chic, but too dated to be broadly accepted.Give it twenty years.
Some people no doubt have bad associations with one or more Douglas people; others may dislike the sound, thinking of excavation; a lot of people find it difficult to form an opinion about a name they aren't familiar with, and reject it instead. Australia and Canada, and also Brazil which amazes me, ranked it in the low 90s/100 between 1980 and 2000, so it still has some admirers! I am unaware of any mass murderers, singers of sentimental ballads etc who might have put people off their Douglas name, so it's probably perceived as over-used and outdated.
Yes, mostly this is because it's outdated, but when I've heard people say they dislike the name it's almost always because they object to the nickname Doug being pronounced the same as the word "dug" and so make fun of it as name referring to a hole in the ground.
I fell in love with Douglas after I spent a summer working in some archives and I had to write the name approximately 1,000 times. It's a beautiful name to write, so round! Douglas is still pretty dated I think, so people can't appreciate it yet. There's no vintage romance to it yet, it's too familiar. But maybe in a generation or two they'll come around.
I don't like sound of name.
Same. I just think it’s ugly. I’ve noticed I tend not to like names with a hard G in them.
I like some hard g names, like Agafya / Agata and Russified form of Hanna, Hanya (Ganna, Ganya) but not mostI also usually do not like names that end with s
Oooh, you’re right, I don’t love that ending either.
It's not really that people dislike the name. It's more, the name was very popular several generations ago and it just fell out of style. I think I knew one Douglas my own age, I was born in 1980. He was named after his dad and went by DJ.
It's not terrible but the sound is very hard and heavy.
