Can you see these non names a names?
Sunrise
Sunset
Lotus
Peace
Can you see them used as human names?

Replies

I have seen a lot of nonbinary people name themselves after random objects, so I don't mind these; they look usable. My favorites are Sunrise & Sunset. I like them as middle names. I can see Lotus being used as a name more commonly than the other ones, although I don't like it, but I don't hate it either - I don't know how I feel about peace. I prefer the name Pacifica when it comes to feminine names and prefer Shalom when it comes to male names.

According to the full Social Security data which includes all names given to five or more babies of the same sex in 2024,
there were 20 boys named Lotus and 29 named Peace in 2024.
There were 123 girls named Lotus and 31 named Peace.Though there were fewer than five babies named Sunrise or Sunset in 2024, I wouldn't be shocked to see either used as a person's name. There were 65 girls named Sunshine and 5 named Sunshyne born in the USA in 2024. (Sunshine has occasionally been used as a girl's name in the USA ever since the 1850s when there was a best-selling novel titled "Tempest and Sunshine." which were the nicknames of two sisters who were the main characters.)
Lotus? Definitely! It belongs to the bouquet of rare/modern flower names, along with Lavender, Marigold or Zinnia. I see Peace as a name too, it's not rare in English-speaking Africa. I love Sunrise and Sunset in theory, but they would seem awkward in practice.
Lotus is the only one I can see working, as flower names tend to meld pretty well into naming culture. And to be honest, I don't mind it. I wouldn't grimace if I ever found it on grocery clerk's nametag or a child's classmate or anything.
Though I don't doubt the others have seen some usage, they are too much of dictionary words for me to see them as a name on a human. It would be in the same vein as calling them chair or pavement.
Lotus and Peace, yes. Sunrise and Sunset have likely been used before, but I'd still be very surprised to see them in person.
No, I can't see these word names as human names.
I wouldn't be surprised if an influencer used these names. They are really pretty words, but I personally wouldn't use them.
Peace I can see. Especially since Serenity is so popular now.
Lotus is also nice.

I know someone named Sunset. I actually never really thought about whether it was a "name" or not when I first heard it. I just thought "That's a cool name!" Peace reminds me just of a lot of existing virtue names. I went to elementary school with a Destiny. Then there's names like Charity, Hope, Harmony, Faith.
Lotus is used as a name. It charted in the Netherlands last in 2020. Peace is also listed on here as a rare name. I've met a child with the middle name Peacelyn. I can definitely see it used as a name, not one I would like, but I'd believe it. I would hope not to see Sunrise or Sunset as names, but I'm sure someone out there would use them. Unfortunately, I could see someone using them as twin names. However, with people using Sunny, Sunday and Sunshine. I also wouldn't be suprised. I just don't think the rise and set parts are good for names.
Lotus, yes, probably.
The others? No.
Peace is too much of a command now. Call out "Peace!" in a crowd and people will think you're either trying to start a rally of some sort, or else trying to stop a fight.
Sunrise and Sunset sound like stripper stage names.
No.I've seen Peace used. It seems hokey to me.
