In 2000 there was only one message board. Some of the posts were just people opining about names, but the main topic was nerd stuff - usage and etymology. When the boards were separated, the separation wasn't retroactive. The original board was archived as Facts.
The post you're talking about is, I think, just someone nerdy, trying a little too hard to be funny. There's no in-joke there.
It's a riff on 'every Tom, Dick, and Harry' but choosing Russian names apparently at random.
Saying they're all named after the same thing is nonsensical. It's just supposed to be silly.
