EWWWWWWW! Horrible on a girl. Not only is it a male name based on a Scottish clan name, which like all Scottish clans has a long history of petty warfare; but it also means "Crooked Nose". How could ANYONE do that to a girl?!
It's also the name of my ex-boyfriend, who was a psychologically abusive manipulative bastard, but I hated it on a girl long before that!

I think there's nothing wrong with naming a baby girl Cameron. It sounds really nice to tell you the truth about it.

I have a four year old girl cousin named Cameron-with that spelling. She's a doll and I like it on her.

Too celebrity-driven . . .
I personally have never seen anyone consider Cameron for a girl before Cameron Diaz. Now its everywhere. I dislike it for that reason. There's something insubstantial to me about naming trends totally driven by Hollywood. One of the reasons I can't stand Xander, which I never saw before Buffy the Vampire Slayer, but now so many little kids are given it as a first name.
I readily admit this may be somewhat unfair, and its a very personal bias - I can't stand celebrity worship, so I roll my eyes any time I hear about a girl Cameron or an Ashton or Xander. I can only imagine it won't be long before we start to see the little Apples.

I know two Camerons, father and son. The former is called Cam and the latter is called Cameron. Cam is a firefighter and a police officer, and Cameron's a star hockey player. Both are very masculine.
Therefore, in my mind the name's 100% male. There's many Cam- names for girls anyway:
Camille - Unisex, but hey
Camelia
Camila
Camilla
Camellia
Cambria
I'd even put in that Camera could be a nice feminine form of Cameron, if it weren't for the vocabulary word. Perhaps Cameria, Camerina, Camerette, or Cameretta would be better?
Any of the above is far preferable to me than the masculine, and frequently horribly misspelt Cameron for a girl. Even the feminine forms of Cameron I made up above would be better in my mind (except Camera).

It's 'just okay' on a girl. I wouldn't use it for a girl because my perception is that it's better suited to a boy. I wouldn't want to be called it, myself. Something about the stressed 'cam' syllable is sort of pushy on a girl, to me.
I'm not opposed to respelling it to make it more femme, but I don't really like any of the respellings, and it's still Cameron spoken aloud - a surname. Pretty much any way you respell it is decent enough, as long as you don't change the C to a K.

I personally don't like it for either gender. It's become quite popular around here in the last few years. Just too trendy for me. However I see no reason to change the spelling, it's still the same name whether you spell it Cameron or Camryn or even Kamerynne.
I wouldn't change the spelling, whether you use it for a girl or a boy. I've always thought the random Y looks weird and out of place in names, I have the same problem with Jordyn.

I like the name only for a boy, and only spelled Cameron. Sorry, but I just don't like masculine names on girls.
