Lucilla
I was watching Gladiator last night and it got me thinking of Lucilla ... It's pretty. Softer than Lucinda, though I like that too. Wdyt? The obvious drawback is that I hate Lucy. Wimpy sounding and overused to boot. Hopefully people wouldn't shorten it.

I prefer Lucille. Lucilla seems frillier to me. I like Lucia or Lucinda better, too. That's how I feel about Philip / Phil. I think if I were to use it, I would just always call him by his full name and politely correct others if they don't do the same. If he were to choose Phil, that would be different, though. Not sure what else one could do about that except not use the name at all, and that's so disappointing.

When Lucilla is a toddler, she might accidently start calling herself Lucy because it's easier to pronounce. I have seen that happen with Britney's calling themselves Britty. Plus, Lucilla could also get mistaken for Lucy since Lucy is a much more common name.

Lucilla is very nice, though I prefer Lucinda (and Lucia). If you don't like the NN Lucy, there's always Cilla.

Exactly the same reason why I like it! It doesn't sound as harsh as Lucille, and it doesn't remind me of my mom's soap operas like Lucinda (which I like, but still). And as a plus, it's not used very much anymore.I hate Lucy, too, and I can't come up with any nice ways Lucilla would be shortened. Luce and Cilla sound strange to my ears.
