Heard of Winyum?
My bf is begging me to post about the name Winyum. His great-aunt Helen told him that it is a family fn, it means William, and that it is Scottish in origin. Can anyone corroborate this so he'll stop pestering me?

Uilleam is the accepted Scottish form of William. I suspect Winyum is an old family pet name for a particular William - in fact I'd bet good money that it's the result of an older sibling's attempts to pronounce the name of a baby William.Maybe if you can get a look at his family tree you could find out whether there was ever an *actual* Winyum, or if there was perhaps just a William whom his great-aunt always knew by the pet name ("old great-uncle Winyum" sort of thing).Hope that helps :-)
