Is the name "dixie" racist????
I believe that people have a tendency to pick names for thier children from thier heritage. The Conferderacy Lasted for a very short time. However southern pride has been a major part of thier heritage since long before the civil war. The song "Dixie" is a sad song sung by soliers on dismal battlefields in an effort to bring for short moments, a vision of a far away home filled with the smells of a life that was on the brink of disappearing. There are some who rally to the "Stars and Bars" in an effort to rekindle the hatred of that sad period in American history. And there are others who enjoy
a UNITED STATES OF AMERICA. I come from a southern state my wife is a
Native American. We both enjoy reading about the others heritage. The name Dixie can have a racist meaning if that is what the parents teach the child. It can also be simply a matter of a proud heritage.
