Christ the crocodile -- a very bizarre theory!
As this site mentions, Christ is Greek for "anointed", and is a translation of the Hebrew word messiah with the same meaning. The plot thickens however when we consider the etymology of the Hebrew word mssiah. According to several sources (check Google!), messiah is derived from the ancient Egyptian word "messeh" meaning "crocodile". Apparently, pharaohs were annointed during their wedding ceremonies with crocodile fat, which was believed to offer sexual potency and fertility -- "messeh" fat was the Egyptians' version of viagra. The Jews supposedly adopted thin ancient custom and annointed their prophets with olive oil (for lack of crocodiles in the Holy Land!). This leads to the bizarre conclusion that the ultimate root of Christ is crocodilian!I wonder if this theory is valid or just a bunch of crock!
