re: origin and meaning of name "VOLLIE"
Does anyone have any idea about where this name comes from and what it means? The bearer of this name is an American male of Scottish descent who was named after his father. I can't find the name in baby name books or in online sources.
Thanks.

"Wullie" is, in Scottish English, a form for William, a correspondent to forms "Willy", "Billy" in British English.http://simplyscottish.safeshopper.com/364/cat364.htm?478Apparently, for this particular person, the pronunciation of his name has become somewhat altered.

I have seen Vollie as a nickname for the German masculine name Volney (or Vollny)which means 'people's courage or spirit'.

Something to do with Waldemar, perhaps?

It looks like a nickname which has something to do with Germanic names starting withWold-/Wald-/Walt- (like Waldemar, Walter etc.) meaning: ruler
Volk- (like Volker, Volkmar etc) meaning: people
Wolf- (like Wolfgang, Wolfram etc.) meaning: wolfSatu
