the name
I was checking the database for the meaning of my name: 'Keir'
The meaning of which i was aware from various other sources meant something along the lines of 'dark skinned' 'dark haired' or 'of dark complexion'
the database told me it was a variant of 'Kerr' which lead to the meaning 'rough wet ground' or something of the sort. i visit the site often and it is only recently that i saw the name "Keir" in the database, all times before there was no entry for it.
i am female, however my name is supposed to be that of a male and of celtic origin. anywhere else that i find my name tells me of the first meanings.
if anyone has some clarity as to which of these is the true meaning of my name, please contact me and post the subject as 'The Actual Meaning' or just place your msg here...whichever is more convenient.Thank You

Keir Means 'Swarthy'. it is a scottish surname of unknown origin confined to scotland before Keir Hardy (James Keir Hardy 1856-1915) Labour Politician.

I always thought it was a form of the Celtic female name Ciar (pronounced kEE-ar) which means "dark". There's a male name Kieran which cames from the Celtic male name Ciarán which means "dark" + diminutive ending (= little dark one)Regards, Satu
