Peggy and Margaret
I know that Peggy is a nickname for Margaret, but I do not really see any connection between the two. Any suggestions?

Maybe there's a connection between Margaret and Maggie, and Maggie and Peggy?
Maybe, maybe not. I don't know, just a suggestion.

The missing link is Meg, at one time a common pet form of Margaret. (Margaret > Marg > Meg > Peg > Peggy)
At least the practice of inflicting rhyming names on twins has pretty well passed. I did once know twin Barry and Larry's...it was confusing to say the least!
From another similar site: What started out as MEGAN, a Welsh pet form of Margaret, has mutated into all sorts of faux-Irish spellings and pronunciations. To translate Megan et. al. into Irish, you could either use Mairéad (mahr ADE), the long Irish form of Margaret, or Peig (PEG), the short form.
I have also seen Margaret defined as meaning 'Pearl' with Meg and Peg as Greek and Celtic translations for the same.
