New name??
Hi, guys. This morning's newspaper had some fashion photos from the Golden Globe awards (not sure what they are ... blush), one of which showed a pretty woman with elaborate hair and dress to match - pleasant to look at; I forget her surname, but her given name appears to be Beyonce. Is this a typo? Was it invented to advance her career? Are there lots of little Beyonces running around in the States? And how do you pronounce it?

So it does - thank you! This must mean that it's not a one-hit wonder. No indication of where it originated, though. As for the pronunciation - I had been imagining the beginning of Beyond tacked on to Once and giving Bee-YUNS. Phew!

I would have pronouced it the same way as you: Bee-YUNS ;oDSatu

So would I, only I heard it before I made that mistake. I personally have only encountered Beyonce once, here in OR.

Beyonce Knowles is a singer in the group Destiny's Child. Her story about her name is pretty neat. Beyonce is her mother's maiden name and her mom wanted it to keep going. I heard that in some interveiw a year ago i think. and i think its french. pronouciation: BEE on say
