If I keep answering questions like this, people are going to think I know something....I don't think it's a Welsh given name - I've never met it in my research.What it is is a Welsh place name being used as a given name (I assume it's your friend's first name?).The nearest I can find is Trevalyn in Wrexham (north-east Wales).
The stress is on the first and third syllable TREV-a-LYN, which explains why the a might have dropped out. The meaning is tref 'village' y '(of) the' llyn 'lake/pool'.Of course, there's always the possibility that your friend's grandparents just combined Trevor and Lynda/Linford/Olin/any name with lin in. It's a fine old American tradition (I'm also assuming you're in the States)...Okeydoke?
