The correspondent to the feminine Basque Amaia (meaning "the end") is the masculine Basque name Asier ("the beginning", from hasiera, "beginning"). Both of them where created by Francisco Navarro Villoslada for his novel Amaya o los vascos en el siglo VIII, in 19th c.Lumia
