of Romanian first names ending in -ie
How do you pronounce the "ie?" I'm fairly certain it isn't "ee" like in English. Thanks in advance.

I don´t know in Romanian, but in Spanish (language that derives from latin, like romanian), "ie" sounds like "EE-eh": Diego is "dee EH-goh"; Graciela is grah-cee Eh-lah". I can't find in Spanish a name ending in "ie". Hope it helps.

I suspect that it's the same in Romanian.

YesAccording this site http://www.orbilat.com/Languages/Rumanian/Grammar/Rumanian-Pronunciation_and_Spelling.htmlthe group ie is pronounced [je], just as in Spanish. So, Ilie is pronounced [i'lje] (ee-LYEH), for instance.

According to this site:
http://www.omniglot.com/writing/romanian.htm
'i' is pronounced as 'i' in front of consonants, and as 'y' in front of vowels. E.g. 'ie' would be pronounced 'ye'.
