Tove for a boy
Please - i am dying to know if the name "Tove" can be used for a boy or not. I live in Sweden, and i know it is a common name here for a girl - but despite that it seems so very handsome and manly that i was wondering whether it always has been a girls' name or whether it coul reasonably be used on guys too, albeit as a middle name. I saw somewhere here that it could be used as nn for Torvald or that it also exists in Hebrew. Is that really true and accurate - is that expert and official knowledge? Thank you for reading, and for any help you might be able to give!

I know I'm a little late here, but here goes...I'm danish and I have only ever heard the name used for a girl. However, I have a male friend called Toke. Very close to Tove. I have no idea whether the *meaning* of the names is equally close or not, because apparently Toke is not in the database.

Jag är också svensk!
I agree with Charlie Blue. Maybe if you didn't live in Sweden you could use it for a boy but naming a boy Tove when the name is considered to be a girl's name is not reasonable in my opinion.

Gosh no....!My reason: I'm a Dane and Tove is the name of my mother. As well as I've only encountered other females with the name Tove. So to me it could only go for any female, not any male, since that would just be plain weird to me, given that I was raised by one with said name. But of course, this is in Denmark, not Sweden, so that opinion could very well be entirely different. I just added my opinion.

Hej, jag är också svensk! As far as I know, Tove was in older times used for boys. Tova is used among Jews, but it hasn't got anything to to with Tove.

Ditto for Tova - although Tov is a (very rare) male form!
