Today was the last day I could legally eke out of my Honda's North Carolina plate, so I gritted my teeth and went down to the courthouse for a Kintuckie one.
To my surprise, they were as pleasant and efficient (really) as the DMV folks had been in NC, and everything went well until I said I wanted a personalized plate just like the old one. No problem, she said, but then frowned at the DAIVIDH on the NC registration. "Whoops, we can do SIX letters max. Would you like another spelling or some other word?"
A swift vision of 250,000 miles of my trusty vanity plate over the last 10 years swam before my eyes. Should I hang it all out and go for NANAEA? PAVLOS? "Nope. Just give me the unleaded one".
Sigh. I'm now 452 GLC (Madison County) instead of DAIVIDH. Do not bend, fold, spindle, or mutilate...
