Maryam - pronunciation
I'm saying this as "MAH-ree-am" or "MAH-ree-um", does anyone know if that's correct?
Maryam is the Arabic form of Mary/Miriam.

this was my old neighbour's daughter's name. She wasn't the quietest of people and we became accustomed to hearing MAR-eey-am hollered at the poor kid several times a day.

I'm not sure how to represent the y sound, it was slight, not mar-ee-yam as in the vegetable, it was more separated than the ia in William.

Thank you, yes that's how I imagined it like as in William (I think you can also spell it Mariam).

Depends...Maryam or Mariam is both the Aramaic and Arabic form of Miriam. My great-grandmother's name is Maryam and we pronounce it "MUHR-yum". Arabs mostly pronounce it "MAHR-yam"; it is true that in both instances, there is a very slight enlongation to the "ee" sound, but it is very slight and doesn't really warrant a syllable of its own when sounded out.
