First of all, I would like to thank people who took part in the development of this informative web-site.
Regarding my name, I know its meaning but I am not sure about it. My parents told me that in Arabic "nur"- is ray or light and "din"- is religion or religious. The gender is masculine.This name is more common in the Central Asia.
I should be grateful if you help me to clear up this point.

You are right. The turkish version is Nurettin.

Nur has become a favourite suffix among turkish parents, like Semanur, Aslinur, Gülnur, Öznur etc.

I don't know the semitic languages, but nur is light in many of them. In Arabic it is نور, noon-waw-reh, but you will find similar forms also in Hebrew and Aramaic. din is Arabic for religion: دين is dal-yeh-noon, and it may be related to the Semitic root for law. Persian also has a din of Indo-european origin, meaning religion, attested in the Avestan literature as daena.

The exact form of the connecting -id- will vary much more according to the language: but overall the meaning expressed is light of religion.
