In college, I knew a fellow undergraduate whose parents had named her "Baby". She was from India, and they found the English word to be cute and exotic. Another user has submitted "Baby" as a name some time ago, just wanted it to be noted that there may be at least two people with that name.

I may have posted about this before, but a few years ago I worked with a young woman named Baby Girl (common surname). It had to be her real name; I saw it on her time card and some documents. A few times it was spelled "Babygirl." She worked in a different area of the building from me, so I didn't know her personally.

For this particular reference, I think it's kind of a cool, retro/rockabilly sounding, nickname (sort of akin to Bebe, Dixie, Dolly, etc) but should be kept at that. Much too common a word in everyday speech to make a good name.
