Legally changing name?
I wonder if anyone knows the answer to this. I'm married and am using my husband's last name. I canged my name legally when we were married a fe years ago -- my legal name is my maiden name followed by my married name, though I don't use my maiden name (on credit cards, driver's license, checks, etc). I'd like to revert back to my maiden name (my husband has no problem with this). Is this any different from any other legal name change? In the state I live (NY) I believe changing one's name requires a hearing in front of a judge, a legal notice in a newspaper, two weeks to pass, then the name is changed. Marriage (changing name to husband's) requires only proof of marriage. Thanks for any advice. Perhaps there's a different site w/the info if it isn't here or this is the wrong place to ask?- Jennifer
