Giving a name meaning
Hello! I have a difficult question, but if you can help me that would be the greatest thing.
My wife has a beautiful name but it has no official meaning. I would love more then anything to give that to her as a gift. I've search the internet and their's probably only a few people in the world with that name. I've also search many websites for a meaning and there's none. But it does mean everything to me. Please! Can you help me?Sincerely,Jonas

There is no organization that gives names "meanings". What one is referring to when one talks about a name's "meaning" is its etymological (historical) origin. Unless your wife's parents were deliberately blending certain names to come up with "Zildy" (or it comes from some Native American language of Guatemala) then the only real "meaning" is "name created by Senor & Senora X for their darling daughter." If you want to interpret Zildy as meaning "lucky" within your own family, that's certainly your right. But there is no way for you to get other people to accept that as a proper "meaning" of the name.

Since you invented this name, the real meaning is "newly created form." Since it seems to blend the sounds of names like Shea and Aidan or Hayden, you could I suppose use a combination of the "meanings" of those names if you decide to make some sort of plaque commemorating your son's name.

Thank you Cleveland and Miranda. It was worth a shot. Maybe when I'm a God someday, I'll give it an official meaning :-)Jonas

As Miranda implied, there is no way anyone here can know whether or not we can help you unless you tell us what the name is. You should also provide as much information as you can about the background of the name and your wife's family. Have you asked your wife's parents how they came to choose her name? What's her ethnic and cultural background? How old is she? Where were her parents living when she was born?

Thanks for your responses. My wife name is Zildy. She's 28 years old. Her parents came up with the name themselves. Zildy was born in Guatemala City, Guatemala, but they moved here to the states when she was 3 years old. Her middle name is Lorena (spanish) which thanks to this website is Lauren in English and means (I think) filled with Laurels. Her parents where college graduates and successful bussiness people in Guatemala, but when her father's life was spared and another man's life taken(long story), He and his wife gave up everything and moved here to the States. They're an amazing family with awesome stories and experiences. Does that help some?Thank You.

Well, unfortunately I'm not an expert like Cleveland or... other experts on this board. (My specialty's Old English and Germanic names.)However, it does occur to me that your wife's name could be a mutation of Zelda. Alternately, your parents-in-law could've made it up, composing it from random sounds they thought sounded pretty. If it's the former case, your wife's name means either "grey battle" in Germanic or "luck" in Yiddish. If it's the latter case, then I'm sorry to say that the name has no etymological meaning. But I emphasise that you shouldn't take my word as gospel here. You should wait to see if maybe someone else with more authority will come along with more info. :-)

Thank you still very much. I know for sure that they made her name up, but I would love to make it official and give it a meaning that I've come up with like "beautiful angel". I had hoped that their was some group or organization that gives names their meaning. Is there?
Also, I'm African American, and as I mention before my wife is Hispanic. We named our son SHAYDEN (We made it up because we liked how it sound) and I hoped to give his name a meaning as well. What do you think?
